![]() We wanted someone who would look at Jane through new eyes.īecause the network had told us it was the last season, we knew we were going to go back to the beginning and revisit the world of a traumatic loss. We wanted to introduce a new character, someone who would be new to Patrick Jane and knew nothing of his past and knew nothing of The Mentalist and the way he worked. When we were planning the season over the summer, there were two things we wanted to do. Sadly, it was always the plan to kill her off. Was it always the endgame for the character of Michelle Vega when she was introduced at the start of the season? 18 series finale, ETonline chatted with Loren and executive producer Tom Szentgyorgyi about the unexpected death – a plan that was set and what this means for Jane and Lisbon’s now rocky future. Mentalist totally did that tonight. As The Mentalist approaches its two-hour Feb. I think all fans are willing to wait and go through years of drama and angst and back and forth if it ends nice. Of all the season finales for all the shipdoms and all the potential finales for shows (and I’m totally looking at Arrow after their finale “stunt” with Oliver/Felicity this year) this is how you make it right in the end and pay it off. Jane coughed up his feelings, Lisbon made the right choice, the finale had a very romantic ending that would have satisfied for sure if this had been the last season. Lisbon, though affected by the declaration, claims his words have come “too late,” and Jane is hauled off the plane to be detained by the TSA. I can’t imagine waking up knowing that I won’t see you,” he begins. Letting people get close to me is terrifying, for obvious reasons….
